Birth of the Latinamerican Flag

On Saturday, June 16, 2007 around noon time and while I was painting in my New York study I received a call from an American friend. She said, Larry I am in downtown Washington D.C., it is a sunny and warm day and I see a great march with lots of people carrying banners about immigration reform that I totally support. I also see people carrying American flags and flags of the Latin American countries. She also told me, you know that I like Latin culture, the food and the music, but I am wondering - is there a symbol that represents all Latinos.

The answer was up to me. However, a single emblem cannot represent the diversity of the Latin culture and I decided to investigate and learn more about the philosophy and the needs of our Latin community to design the symbol that could represent us all.

It was the great march of the million of signatures organized by Eddie Sotelo, "El Piolin", well-known Latin, morning radio host and whose program "El Piolin in the morning" airs daily from Los Angeles to all the United States.

The march, an impressive movement of people, left Los Angeles and came across land from coast to coast to arrive in Washington and to deliver to the Congress of the United States and to the White House, the million of signatures collected in support of the legalization of undocumented immigrants.
